The market got away to a good start on Wednesday when the AWEX Micron Price Guides were up, or unchanged; before easing in the 19 to 22 micron range on Thursday.  The lesser types were again more affected than the better wools.

There were overall gains up to 19.5 microns, after which the gains became progressively small falls (-3˘ to -6˘) up to 22 microns.  The gains at the fine end were greatest at 16.5 microns, and became less as the fibre diameter increased.  Crossbreds showed little overall change during the week.  Merino skirtings finished on a mixed basis, as did the oddments.

The US Exchange Rate was relatively unchanged during the week, after the steady falls from around 74˘ in July.  It finished 0.10˘ (0.1%) higher to close at 71.81˘ on Thursday.

Buyers for China were dominant, with support from buyers for Europe and India

Looking ahead, offerings for the coming three sales are expected to range from 34,800 bales to 37,700 bales and to be 7.7% less than in the same period last year.  This continues the trend seen in the season to date.
