IMPORTANT NOTICE:

AWIS, like other wool industry organisations, is feeling the pressure of the reduction in wool production and of increasing costs.

This has led to a review of AWIS policies and services.

As a result of this review, AWIS had made a decision to concentrate on services that it provides to its Member Organisations.

One such service is the AWIS Market Review, which is distributed to Members and to other interested parties as well as being included on the AWIS web Site.

AWIS continues to provide the Market Review to other persons or organisations who wish to receive it, in which case, there is a charge of $50 (plus GST) per annum to assist AWIS in covering the costs of producing the Review.

Under these circumstances the AWIS Market Review will now be delayed by a week in going onto the Web Site.

Those who wish to receive the Market Review in a more timely manner can do so by paying the $50 (plus GST) per annum subscription for the combined AWIS Newsletter  / Market Review.

Please make contact with Melissa at melissa.mulley@woolindustries.org if you wish to take-up the subscription option.

AWIS hopes that the reasons for this decision are understood and appreciated.

The market continued in the manner of recent weeks, with the EMI continuing above 2000˘; and the strongest demand being among the medium and broader Merino types.  They again reached record price levels.

The other main feature of the market was the continuing closeness of prices for these wools.  There was only 32˘ between the closing average MPGs from 19.5 and 23 microns last week.  This week, the difference was only 8˘ from 19.5 to 22 microns; and 32˘ from 19.5 to 23 microns, with the average 20 MPG 2˘ greater than the 19.5 MPG (the average difference over the whole season is 76˘ in favour of the 19.5 micron wool).

There were small movements in both directions among the crossbreds; skirtings were easier and oddments were generally firm or unchanged

Prices in Australian currency were helped by a fall in the US Exchange Rate, which finished 1.04˘ (-1.4%) lower to close at 75.55˘ on Thursday.  But, it was a very strong market irrespective of the Exchange Rate.

Buyers for China were dominant, with support from buyers for India and Europe.

Looking ahead, the expected offerings are falling away over the coming three weeks; and are currently forecast to be 14.8% less than in the same period last year.
