IMPORTANT NOTICE:

AWIS, like other wool industry organisations, is feeling the pressure of the reduction in wool production and of increasing costs.

This has led to a review of AWIS policies and services.

As a result of this review, AWIS had made a decision to concentrate on services that it provides to its Member Organisations.

One such service is the AWIS Market Review, which is distributed to Members and to other interested parties as well as being included on the AWIS web Site.

AWIS continues to provide the Market Review to other persons or organisations who wish to receive it, in which case, there is a charge of $50 (plus GST) per annum to assist AWIS in covering the costs of producing the Review.

Under these circumstances the AWIS Market Review will now be delayed by a week in going onto the Web Site.

Those who wish to receive the Market Review in a more timely manner can do so by paying the $50 (plus GST) per annum subscription for the combined AWIS Newsletter  / Market Review.

Please make contact with Melissa at melissa.mulley@woolindustries.org if you wish to take-up the subscription option.

AWIS hopes that the reasons for this decision are understood and appreciated.

It was good start to the new selling season, with widespread competition, the better wools being rewarded and the Merino market lifting as the week progressed.  The greatest gains were from 16.5 to 19.0 microns, after which the gains fell away and changed to falls at 21.0 microns.  The falls increased as the Diameter increased.

Medium crossbreds fell sharply on Tuesday, before easing on Wednesday and recovering slightly on Thursday.  The medium crossbreds were more affected than coarse crossbreds in a reversal of the pattern seen through most of last season.

The US Exchange Rate finished 0.57˘ (0.8%) higher to close at 74.41˘ on Thursday.  It has stayed in the “high-73s” to “mid-74’s” during the break.

Buyers for China were dominant, with support from buyers for India and Europe.

Looking ahead, the expected offerings over the coming three sales currently average around 35,000 bales; and are 13.7% below the same period last year.  The combination of the strong close in the current sale and the smaller volumes in the coming weeks seems likely to maintain  pressure in the market.
